We are a county that is built on the idea that every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. It's a simple principle, but one that we have struggled to uphold in recent years.
We need more compassionate leaders who will stand up for our values. That's why I'm running for STORY COUNTY SUPERVISOR.
Making sure the County is capitalizing on all federal opportunities to improve our roads and bridges. Many of them are out of date.
Ensure the policies implemented by the board are designed to promote growth not slow it. Be personally available to hear concerns. And make all county services easy for the taxpayer to access. Make it less stressful for people to pursue their dreams like building a house not hard because of over-reach.
I have been on the board of the Story County Medical Center for 12 years and have had wonderful care at Mary Greeley. We are blessed to have these two wonderful facilities and need to promote them, encourage utilization and strengthen their presence. We also need to continue the work on addressing mental health needs in the County. There is still a long way to go.
Taking a serious look at all county expenditures and finances. Are we sure we are getting the most value for our precious tax dollars? I believe my experience in leadership at several other boards will give me a unique perspective.
I think we need to have a serious conversation about having a five person county board to ensure equal representation across the county. I was recently informed that this is a possibility during an “odd” year. I think we should consider this and do it by redistributing the current supervisor budget. Right now they make a little more than $80,000. My proposal would be something along the lines of five board members at $48,000. Not many politicians campaign to make less money but I’m not a politician and I think it is the right thing to do.
